restarting varnish

Hello
I tried making some changes that didn't work.
So I changed it back to how varnish was running previously and now i can't
start the actual service.
Running varnish cache cli gives me child(xxx) said child start.
But when I try "varnish service restart" it fails. What do I do next? I
wonder if anyone can help me.
