varnishstat explanation?

Does anyone know if there is a complete explanation for the statistics /
coutners displayed by varnishstat? I found

http://kristianlyng.wordpress.com/2009/12/08/varnishstat-for-dummies/ but
neither is complete. I'm trying to get a grasp on the SMA counters right
now:

SMA allocator requests
SMA outstanding allocations
SMA outstanding bytes
SMA bytes allocated
SMA bytes free
