Hoi Martin,
See attached document, it's a diagram explaining how we do things.
Perhaps it will give you some inspiration.
On the balancers we have varnish running on port 80, and squid on port
443. They both do almost exactly the same thing. (Although Varnish is
waaay faster, and Squid does SSL).
